Sheri and I put in a 10 hour day yesterday! She is fabulous company.
I didn’t know an introvert could spend 10 hours in the company of another human when isn’t work.
But Sheri is like a unicorn 🦄in terms of an exploring companion. We had FUN!
She, her daughter Rachel and I all piled into the car for a 10 am start at visiting Butchart Gardens.
Butchart surpassed any photos I had ever seen. Created by the Butchart family who transformed an old quarry into this thing of lush beauty. I have never seen anything like it.
The innocent carousel was actually quite bloodthirsty on closer inspection! 😳
I noticed lots of unhealthy brown things growing on most of the rose leaves. This was disappointing in an establishment as renowned as this one. I was embarrassed for them and brushed them off as much I could to be helpful. Later on, up the way a bit, Sheri was chatting to a gardener and I overheard him say ‘yeah, we have to protect our roses by introducing a good mite to them that eat the bad critters. We mix them up with wet bran and then spray the roses with the mix for even distribution, ‘
I looked back at all the rose leaves I had brushed free of all their protection!😳
After a few hours skimming the surface of Butchart’s floral magic, we drove on to Sidney, a town on the Salish Sea.
Lunch was at the Surly Mermaid, a cool hipster place full of sweet young waitresses. I chose the burger that came with peanut butter aioli, obviously…. because: peanut butter.
All the food was delicious.
Victoria gets used pianos in the summer, paints them, and places them around the city for people to use. Rach played beautifully.
We dropped Rach off home and went to the Marina for some drinks and sushi.
Then it was home to sink into the couch and watch a rom com.
