About me:

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the World Wide Web. My name is Michelle and I like exploring.

Exploring Photography: During the long hours spent in my boarding school darkroom, I dreamed of being a photojournalist. As it turned out I wasn’t tenacious enough to follow this through and only got as far as an offer to study photojournalism from Pepperdine University (which I chose for the name and only later found out was in Malibu, California.) Being an Australian, this was never going to happen. Fast forward to 8 years ago when I picked up my very first DSLR camera. Love at first sight. On my blog I will test out new photography techniques and social media photography trends ( within reason) Feel free to send me suggestions. I will also just bore you with photos of the stuff I like to photograph. OK?

Exploring Canberra and beyond: I live in the vibrant capital city of the best country in the world. When I go to events or eat out, I take lots of photographs and while I am not a food critic or connoisseur of the arts, I will jot down how they make me feel and take photos of them!

Exploring the WORLD: I can’t allow myself to thing about the possibility of another trip at present, because all of a sudden I become very unproductive.

The blame for my ever-present urge to travel rests entirely on my parents. They filled the first 18 years of my life in East Africa chock full of adventures that fuelled my imagination. From long holidays on the exotic white beaches of the Indian Ocean and safaris in Amboseli and Tsavo , to remote desert towns with no electricity and enough goose bump- raising experiences to fill a book, it’s no wonder that, when I see a plane flying overhead it still gives me a thrill.

Hence, I am always saving for a family trip (we did 6 weeks in the US and are recently back from 6 weeks in Europe). I get excited about discovering different cultures, seeing how different and how similar we are. In every place I have travelled, it is the memorable people (the fabulous human beings AND the absolute rotters ) we have encountered that have made the experience what it was.

I share all the nitty gritty blow-by-blow details of our trip, as well as detailing how and where I found cheap accommodation, tours and transport. The epic fails will be posted as well as the pure genius because we learn from our mistakes.

Hi there, I really like your panoramic photo of Canberra on this page http://dorytheexplorer.com/?p=608

Do you sell your photographs? I would like to blow it up and stick it on a wall.

      Hi Kane,
Yes I do. If you live in Canberra I have a lookbook at Shop Handmade there from which you can order wall art.
Otherwise, I am happy to work out whether you want to buy the high res image and then blow it up yourself or have me do it. My favourite way of displaying my panoramas is floating acrylic. 🙂
